Wisniewski tore his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during training and will have surgery. The team said Thursday he should be able to return during next season.
Analysis: The 24-year-old Wisniewski played 68 games last season and had seven goals and 19 assists. In his three seasons with Chicago, he's played 137 games and scored 11 goals with 32 assists. He was a fifth-round draft pick of the Blackhawks in 2002.
The Wild signed Miettinen to a three-year contract Thursday.
Analysis: Miettinen's deal was done on his 28th birthday, after he scored a career-high 15 goals to go with 19 assists in 69 games last season for the Dallas Stars. The 6-foot, 190-pound former star of the Finnish Elite League is a hard hitter who is versatile enough to contribute on special teams. He spent 3 1/2 years with the Stars.
Wilson signed a one-year contract on Thursday with the Stars, his fifth NHL team.
Analysis: The 33-year-old Wilson has played for Colorado, Boston, Phoenix and Pittsburgh since being a first-round draft pick in 1993. He has played the last four seasons in Europe. He is the son of Dallas assistant coach Rick Wilson.
The Panthers signed Fitzpatrick to a two-year deal Thursday.
Analysis: In his 10 years in the NHL, Fitzpatrick, 33, has played for six teams. Last season, he only played in 19 games for Philadelphia before the Flyers waived him January 1.
Laraque signed a three-year, $4.5-million contract with the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.
Analysis: The 31-year-old Laraque spent last season with the Eastern Conference champion Pittsburgh Penguins. The 6-foot-3, 243-pound Laraque had four goals and nine assists and 141 penalty minutes in 71 games last season. He added one goal, two assists and four penalty minutes in 15 playoff games for the Penguins, who lost to the Detroit Red Wings in the Stanley Cup finals last month.
The Canadiens signed Henry to a minor-league deal Thursday.
Analysis: Henry hasn't played in the NHL since the 2005-06 season, when he had five assists and 73 penalty minutes in 63 games with Minnesota. He spent last season in the Nashville system.
The New York Rangers signed former Buffalo Sabres defenseman Dmitri Kalinin to a one-year deal on Thursday.
Analysis: New York needed to replenish the blue line after dealing defensemen Fedor Tyutin and Christian Backman on Wednesday to Columbus for forwards Nikolai Zherdev and Dan Fritsche. The 27-year-old Kalinin was limited to one goal, seven assists and 32 penalty minutes in 46 games last season as he was bothered by injuries to his right knee and shoulder.
Jagr, an unrestricted free agent, will not be back with the New York Rangers in 2008-09. The club instead decided to sign Markus Naslund - the longtime Vancouver Canucks captain - on Thursday.
Analysis: Rangers general manager Glen Sather said he couldn't wait any longer for Jagr to make up his mind on what it would take to keep him in a Rangers uniform, so they signed Naslund. Sather broke the news to Jagr on Thursday and thanked him for his service over the past four seasons in New York, including the last two as team captain. "Jagr was very respectful when I talked to him and gave him the information that we're going to move on," Sather said.
Naslund, the longtime Vancouver Canucks captain, agreed to terms Thursday with the New York Rangers on a two-year deal worth $8 million.
Analysis: Naslund spent 12 seasons with the Canucks and had been captain since 2000. Naslund, who began his NHL career with Pittsburgh, was a five-time All-Star with the Canucks and was the runner-up for NHL MVP in 2003. He reached the 40-goal mark three times. He has 371 goals and 452 assists for 823 points in 1,035 games. Naslund's numbers have gone down in recent years from a career-best 48 goals and 104 points in 2002-03 to 25 goals and 55 points last season.
The Coyotes re-signed defenseman Matt Jones to a two-year contract on Thursday.
Analysis: The 24-year-old Jones played 45 games for the Coyotes last season and had two assists and 10 penalty minutes. He was a third-round pick of Phoenix in the 2002 draft and has one goal, 10 assists and 63 penalty minutes in 106 career NHL games - all with the Coyotes.
Hale signed a two-year contract Thursday with the Phoenix Coyotes after spending last season with the Calgary Flames.
Analysis: Hale had two assists and 46 penalty minutes in 58 regular-season games last season. He also appeared in six playoff games with the Flames. The 27-year-old Hale has 11 assists and 175 penalty minutes in 215 career NHL games with New Jersey and Calgary.
The Penguins signed Fedotenko to a one-year contract Thursday.
Analysis: Fedotenko, 29, scored 33 points (16 goals, 17 assists) in 67 games last season. In his career, he has 123 goals and 116 assists in 523 NHL games.
The Penguins signed Satan to a one-year contract Thursday.
Analysis: Satan, 33, had 41 points in 80 games, and was tied for third on the club in scoring. The native of Slovakia was originally drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in 1993 and has played in 12 seasons in the NHL.
The Penguins on Thursday signed Fleury to a seven-year, $35 million contract, the third long-term deal inked with one of their younger players in two days.
Analysis: Penguins general manager Ray Shero called the 23-year-old Fleury "one of the elite goaltenders of the game" and said he was instrumental in helping the team reach the Stanley Cup Final. Fleury's signing came a day after the Penguins signed two other players to long-term deals. Center Evgeni Malkin signed for an average of $8.7 million over five years and defenseman Brooks Orpik signed a six-year, $22.5 million deal.
