But the commitment to Hill and Nash, and their apparent willingness to hold onto Stoudemire for one more season, could help them compete for a playoff spot again after finishing ninth in the West in 2008-09. Stoudemire, Nash and Leandro Barbosa are the only three players remaining from the Phoenix teams that made back-to-back conference finals in 2005-06.
