Konerko hopes to come off the disabled list early next week after a rehabilitation assignment with Triple-A Charlotte this weekend.

Besides the oblique problem, the three-time All-Star has been bothered by a sore right hand. The result is a .215 average, eight homers and 30 RBIs. It was announced that he would be fined by the International League but not serve a suspension for his actions in Wednesday night's game. Analysis: Glavine was placed on the disabled list June 11 with a tear in his flexor tendon. He said if he continues to improve he should be able to begin throwing soon after the All-Star break. Glavine is watching the calendar, with an eye on the start of the 2009 season, as he monitors the progress of his elbow. He says if has to have surgery, he doesn't want to wait so long that he wouldn't be ready for spring training. |

Castillo played the ninth inning as part of a double switch Wednesday night after the New York Mets had determined the second baseman would be placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained hip flexor.
Analysis: That half-inning of defense in an 8-7 loss to the Cardinals will sideline the three-time Gold Glove winner and All-Star until at least the first game after the All-Star break. Diagnosed with a torn labrum, Albers has opted for a rehabilitation program rather than an operation and a lengthy recovery. He made the decision Wednesday after visiting with orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews in Alabama.
Analysis: The right-hander rejoined the Orioles on Thursday, but won't do much more than put on his uniform and do some running through the weekend. Then he will head to the team's training complex in Florida to begin his rehab process. He has targeted his return for late August or early September. The 25-year-old Albers is 3-3 with a 3.49 ERA in 28 games. He would love to add to those stats, but knows there's a chance he won't be able to play again until 2009. |
